The Department of Philosophy at Kazi Nazrul University (KNU) commenced its academic journey in 2015, offering a Master's program in Philosophy. The inaugural batch consisted of 15 students, and since then, the department has expanded to accommodate 40 students per batch.
The department is located in Vidyacharcha Bhavan on the KNU campus.
To enhance the academic experience, the department maintains a library with approximately 40 text and reference books. Additionally, it offers computer facilities equipped with printing, scanning, and photocopying services.
The department actively engages in cultural events, encouraging students to celebrate Teachers’ Day annually. It also organizes fresher’s welcome and farewell ceremonies for incoming and outgoing students, with faculty members providing support for these events.
In 2018, the department established the Centre for Studies in Ethics and Socio-Political Philosophy (CSESPP), approved by the university's Executive Council. Dr. Kalyan Banerjee, Associate Professor in Philosophy, serves as the Coordinator.
